What Is A Crown?

A crown is an artificial cap that fits over the tooth.  They are used to restore discoloured, broken or malformed teeth to their gleaming natural colour and shape.

Why Do I Need A Crown?
  • If a tooth is badly broken down or has a very large filling present increasing the risk of the tooth breaking.
  • Teeth that have had root canal treatment become more brittle and are more likely to break, a crown helps protect them.
  • If you are unhappy with a severely discoloured or malformed tooth.
What Are Veneers?

Veneers are thin shells of ceramic or composite dental material that are custom made to fit over the tooth surface.  They can improve the colour, shape and size of your teeth.  They can also be used to close gaps.  Some veneers require less tooth preparation than crowns.  They are suitable for teeth that do not have large fillings in them.  Veneers can be a great cosmetic dental solution for appropriate patients where whitening or teeth straightening is unsuitable.

What Is Involved And Who Will Make My Crown/Veneer?

A minimum of two appointments will be required.  The first will involve preparing the tooth for a crown/veneer and taking impressions.  These are then sent to a dental technician who will make your bespoke crown/veneer.  At Mayhew Dental we use the best technicians and highest quality of materials.  We are always communicating with our technicians to ensure that each patient receives the best level of dentistry.

Will It Hurt?

No.  We will numb the tooth ensuring that you are comfortable throughout.

How Much Will It Cost?

Each individual case is slightly different as are the different types of crowns available.  We will assess your mouth and discuss all the options and costs of what is most suitable for you.
